- For my birthday brunch, we were trying to find somewhere I have not dined. With Houston becoming a foodie scene like no other, new restaurants are in abundance. However, my friends and I wanted to start in the midtown area so that we could travel from brunch to some light debauchery. Cook and Collins came up, and after looking at the menu, it became a no brainer.
- Cook and Collins offers American fare produced with sustainable, local ingredients. The food is accessible and familiar, but everything has a modern twist. The restaurant is located at 2416 Brazos, and it is within walking distance of several other midtown hotspots. The atmosphere is very relaxed, and has a modern slightly industrial feel. The staff was very attentive and friendly. As a whole the experience was worth repeating.
- Let’s get on to what is really important, the food! As previously mentioned we arrived during brunch. The brunch offerings all looked amazing, but we settled on the Ham and Cheese Omelette, C&C Biscuits and Gravy, Smothered Brazos Burrito, and the C&C Sinaroll. The Sinaroll is not a misspelling, and it is as accurate a description as I can muster. I would assume that’s how the name came about. It was decadent, indecent, and damn delicious. It is a bacon icing drenched, brioche masterpiece. I am a cinnamon lover to the extreme. This pastry took me to another state of being.
- Everything I tried was simply amazing, including the cocktails. The Ginger Berry Collins is a must if you’re feeling fruity¸ but if you are looking for something a little more substantial go for a Bloody Mary. You can even continue upstairs to the lounge, and finish your adult beverage.
