Williams-Sonoma has some great pantry staples that we see every year at this time. Of course they are key components to creating a masterful holiday feast, but these guys can enhance your meals throughout the long months ahead. Once the holidays are over, these long shelf life ingredients begin to become scarce. It’s best to stock up now and reap the benefits throughout the remainder of the year.

The first on my list of must-haves is the Turkey Stock concentrate. A few teaspoons of concentrate into 3 cups of water will get you a flavorful stock to add to all of your poultry dishes. They also carry vegetable, chicken, and beef concentrates, as well as demi-glaces. At $24.95 this little jar is a steal considering it will make gallons of stock.

IMG_0630Every Thanksgiving they also bring out a jar of dried mushrooms. It’s a combination of shitake, portobello, chanterelle, and oyster mushrooms. This is an amazing deal for $16.95. If you purchase the small packages of dried mushrooms at your local grocery store they range from $4 to $8 for a small package with usually no more than 5 mushrooms in it.

IMG_0631My last stock up at Thanksgiving is Chuck’s Turkey herb blend. It’s a combination of sage, thyme, and marjoram. It is just a beautiful poultry blend to use throughout the year any time you want a flavorful bird. You can get this wide mouth jar for only $9.95.

IMG_0619Let’s talk tools briefly. My #1 favorite kitchen gadget I have ever purchased at Williams is the silcone garlic peeler. It looks like a large plastic noodle, but it is truly so much more. I use a ton of garlic when I cook, and I cannot stand peeling the individual cloves. All you have to do is place a few cloves inside the peeler. Press down lightly and roll the “noodle” around. The skin will fling itself out and the clean clove will be left inside. I love this invention so much I own two!!

The latest edition of this guy is clear, and it only costs $9.95

  • Here’s a little tip: Make sure the inside of the peeler is dry or it will not function properly. You can also use it for small shallots!

IMG_0623While we are talking tools I own two of, let’s talk about the Swissmar peeler 3 pack. These rough and tough little color-coded peelers do a bang up job. They don’t look like they would hold up against professional level cooking, but I have owned one set since I was in culinary school. That just goes to show that you should never judge a book by its cover, eh? There is a serrated, julienne, and standard peeler in each pack. They will set you back $17.95, but you won’t be disappointed.

All of theses items will help make your holidays go off without a hitch, but they are going to  provide you with many more meals. I always have these guys in my kitchen or my kit to help out in a snap.
